2025 OVGA Junior U19/U17 City & District Championship
The Ottawa Valley Golf Association’s annual Junior City & District Championship for their U19 and U17 age groups was held over two beautiful summer days, June 14–15, 2025. This championship remains an important stop on the OVGA junior schedule, attracting strong fields and great competition.
Saturday’s round doubled as a Golf Ontario U19 Boys Qualifier (10 exemptions awarded), and Sunday’s round was also a qualifier for the Golf Quebec Provincial Junior Championship. A record 87 junior golfers teed it up over the two days, which is a very encouraging sign of the continued growth of junior golf in the Ottawa Valley and Outaouais.
Players enjoyed perfect weather throughout the event, which made for excellent scoring conditions and exciting play. The first round challenged the field at Hylands (South) Golf Club on Saturday, with its tree-lined fairways and well-guarded greens testing every shot. The final round moved to Club de Golf du Parc Kingsway on Sunday, where players battled for division titles under clear skies, smaller challenging greens and the back-drop of the Gatineau hills.
Congratulations to the champions in all age categories:
- Overall Girls Winner & U19 Girls Champion: Avery Nordman (Canadian Golf and Country Club). Avery had an impressive 10 birdies over the two-days, scoring an even-par 72 on Saturday and an outstanding 3-under 68 on Sunday to capture both titles.
- U17 Girls Champion: Amelia McFarlane (Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club). Amelia’s steady rounds and 4-birdies, secured her the top spot in the Juvenile girls’ division.
- Overall Boys & U17 Boys Champion: Aidan Reil (Camelot Golf and Country Club). Aidan’s consistent play and even-par round on Day 2 earned him top honors in both divisions.
- U19 Boys Champion: Samy Tahar (Royal Ottawa Golf Club). Tahar was 2-back going into Sunday, after Carter O’Brien carded 8 birdies and a 2-under par 70 on Day 1. Tahar would birdie the 18th hole on Sunday to force a sudden death playoff over O’Brien, and this momentum helped him secure the title on the first extra hole.
Top scorers in the Boys and Girls 14–15 and 16–18 divisions earned exemptions into the prestigious Notah Begay III Canadian Championship, to be played at Kanawaki Golf Club on August 4–5, 2025, a fantastic opportunity to compete on the national stage.
The OVGA extends sincere thanks to our title sponsor Fitness Depot, to Titleist for providing quality prizes, to our host clubs for their hospitality, and to our team of dedicated volunteers whose hard work ensures each event’s success.
The U15s are next up at the Rockland Golf Club on July 6-7, 2025, competing for their chance at the City & District Championship in their age divisions. All of our OVGA junior events earn order-of-merit points towards the season-long race for the Junior OVGA Cup, to be awarded over the labour-day weekend!
