2025 Junior U19 OVGA Cup Champions

Our final OVGA Junior event for 2025, the U19 Junior OVGA Cup, took place over the Labour Day weekend, August 29, 30 & 31, where 60 of our regions’ top juniors competed over three days on three different golf courses for bragging rights, Order-of-Merit points, and the OVGA Cup. The Overall Boys and Girls winners also get ranked on the World-Amateur-Golf-Rankings (WAGR).

New for this year was a two-day inter-provincial team competition between six-player junior teams representing the OVGA, Golf Quebec and Golf Ontario, which will certainly increase the calibre of play at this event going forward.

The first round of the U19 OVGA Cup was held at Greensmere’s Golf & Country Club Legacy course, where Cash McDonell (Landings) took a 2-shot lead after round one over Brennan Turner (Lookout Point) with a score of 70 (-2) that included 5 birdies.  For the girls, Sofia De Zordo (Balmoral) held a slim one-shot lead over Payton Pattison (Colonnade) after round one.

Eagle Creek Golf Club hosted the second round of the event. Édouard Laflamme (Cap-Rouge) had the low round of the day, shooting 70 (-2) with five birdies, and moving up nine spots on the leaderboard. Cash McDonell continued his solid play shooting 74, and maintained his two-shot lead. Payton Pattison had the low round of the day for the girls shooting 74 (+2), which vaulted her into the lead heading into the final round over De Zordo and Ceilidh Spare (Rideau View).

The team competition wrapped up with a small reception after day two, with Team Ontario taking top honours and the “Davidson Cup”. Team OVGA and Team Quebec finished in 2nd and 3rd respectively, rounding out a great first year for this new inter-provincial competition.

The Marshes Golf Club played host to the final round on August 31st and it did not disappoint. The field size was cut to the top 24 boys and seven girls. Fresh off his gold medal in the team competition, Edward Li (Rocky Crest) went out low early, with four birdies on the front to get within three of the lead. With everyone else pressing for the win, it was Edward Li’s solid even-par 36 on the back nine that made the difference. It came down to the tough 18th hole where Li carded a par to give himself a one-shot victory over Cash McDonell, with Édouard Laflamme two back for 3rd place. Cash McDonell was top in the Junior Boys Division and Jack Sample in the Bantam Boys Division.

Payton Pattison took control of her own destiny by again shooting the low round of the day (74) on Sunday, and increasing her lead on the way to victory in the Girls Overall and Juvenile competitions. Ceilidh Spare came in second overall with a 3rd round score of 76, and Sophia De Zordo finished 3rd overall and top Junior Girl.

Top OVGA players in this competition also get to hoist the Junior OVGA Cup. This year's champion golfers are Aidan Reil (Camelot) and Payton Pattison (Colonnade).

Season long Order-of-Merit crystals were awarded to:
  • Junior Boys - Kian Gauthier (Kanata),
  • Juvenile Boys – Aiden Reil (Camelot),
  • Bantam Boys - Zander Zhang (Rivermead),
  • Junior Girls – Avery Nordman (Canadian),
  • Juvenile Girls - Payton Pattison (Colonnade)

Congratulations to all of our winners, and a huge thank you to all the families, players, coaches, host clubs and volunteers for another amazing season.
