2025 OVGA Match Play at Gatineau

The 2025 OVGA Match Play Championship was held on September 4th and 5th at the Gatineau Golf and Country Club. Players qualified for this event based on OVGA order-of-merit standings in their divisions as of the close of registration. This was also the last event to earn points for the prestigious season-ending OVGA Cup.
Two rounds of match-play were completed on day 1, which included a short rain delay. The top 4 Men, Women and Senior men who made it through both of their matches advanced to day 2 where the weather and course conditions were excellent.
In the Senior Men’s semi-finals, John Taylor defeated Stéphane Racine 3&2, while Perry Freda edged out Tom Henderson 4&3 to advance to the final. In the Women’s Division, Nancy Chen topped Lise Jubinville 2&1, and Teri De Luis advanced past Diane Dolan 4&3. On the Men’s side, Jared Coyle got past Chris Campbell 6&4, while Brad Goodman defeated Kevin Bellamy 4&3, setting up an afternoon showdown between the two highest-ranked men’s golfers.
In the finals, Jared Coyle (Carleton) edged Brad Goodman (Greensmere) 1-up to capture the Men’s title. Nancy Chen (Hautes Plaines), the fourth seed, claimed the Women’s Division title with a 2-up victory over Teri De Luis (Brockville). In the Senior Men’s final, first seed John Taylor (eQuinelle) took the championship with a 4&3 win over the third seed Perry Freda (Madawaska).
This event continues to be very special, and all players thoroughly enjoyed the match-play format, the camaraderie and the chance to win bragging rights going into the OVGA Cup. Thanks to all of the volunteers and the Gatineau Golf & Country Club for an excellent couple of days.
